Tata has diversified itself well in the SUV space. It has small SUVs like the Punch & Nexon and also bigger ones like the Harrier and Safari. The smaller ones are driving the sales. It’s not like the Harrier and Safari are not selling, they are just not able to keep up with the competition. To counter this, Tata has been working on a facelift for both models. Today, we have obtained new spy shots of the 2023 Tata Safari facelift confirming new features.

Spy shots

The spy shots were sent to use by one of our readers Kaustubh Lambe. He spotted the heavily camouflaged car on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. So what can we spot? Overall, there doesn’t seem to be many design changes. We have the same taillamp and grille design. At the front, we can spot the radar module hinting at the presence of ADAS. We can also spot the 360-degree camera bump on the ORVM. Tata has covered the alloy wheel but the design seems the same. Our reader claimed that he saw a 12-inch infotainment system in the test car. We can’t confirm that from the video, but Tata is expected to upsize the infotainment system. A 12-inch system could be perfect for a car like Safari.

Tata Safari 2023 – What else do we know?

Tata Safari 2023

Even though the spotted car had no changes, we expect the facelift to get some subtle design changes. We could see updated headlamps, reworked bumpers, new alloy wheel designs etc. The brand will also need to update the interiors with a bigger infotainment system and new upholstery. According to reports, Tata is also tweaking the suspension setup to increase the off-road capabilities of the car.

Specifications

Tata Safari 2023

The Tata Safari facelift will continue with the 2.0-litre diesel engine. This engine is ready for the upcoming RDE norms, so that would not be an issue for Tata. However, the biggest change could be the addition of a petrol engine. Tata is working on a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This petrol engine is not a priority for Tata and we may or may not see it on the Safari facelift at launch. Transmission options on the petrol engine could include a manual and an automatic gearbox.

Tata Safari 2023 – Launch timeline

Tata is yet to confirm anything about the Safari facelift, but the car has been spotted several times in the last few months. With the Auto Expo around, Tata could unveil the Safari facelift at the Expo to grab maximum eyeballs. The proper launch may happen a few months after the Expo. What about the pricing? With the petrol engine, we could expect the starting price to drop. Still, overall, prices are expected to increase by Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh depending upon the variants.
