The midsize SUV segment has seen quite a lot of action with cars like Jeep Compass, MG Hector and Tata Harrier. Talking about the Harrier, this car attracts a lot of attention due to its bold road presence and macho styling. Also, Tata’s constant upgrades in their new special editions also give varied choices to the buyers. However, now with the new upcoming Hector, there are chances that Harrier could lose its spotlight. How can MG Hector do this? Should you wait for the new upcoming MG Hector as a Tata Harrier buyer? Let’s discuss it.

New upcoming MG Hector – Design & Features

New Upcoming MG Hector

MG has been testing the Hector on Indian roads and from the looks of it, no imminent changes are expected to be seen in its dimensions. The new Hector could retain the Hector Plus’ 4,655mm length, 1,835mm width & 1,760mm height. It is still longer & taller when compared to the Harrier’s 4,598mm length, 1,894mm width & 1,706mm height. The dimensions of both these cars are similar to an extent, however, there are chances that the new Hector could also get third-row seating. This could be a major plus point for some buyers.

New Upcoming MG Hector

MG has already started to tease the new Hector on social media. The updated model is likely to be sold alongside the currently-available Hector to increase its market penetration. This would allow the brand to place the new Hector for a premium set of buyers. How would MG do it? MG teased the interior of the car and it is a step forward from the current car. The new upcoming car would have more premium touches and is likely to offer more features. The addition of soft-touch materials, a new 14-inch vertical infotainment system and a new fully digital instrument cluster could be seen. ADAS could also be on MG’s list.

New upcoming MG Hector – Engine specifications

New Upcoming MG Hector

The new Hector is unlikely to get any powertrain changes. It could continue with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine churning out 141bhp & 250Nm of torque. Moreover, it could also get a mild-hybrid tech to enhance the fuel economy figures. For the likes of diesel, the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine would continue to make its way churning out 169bhp & 350Nm of torque. Transmission options are expected to be a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

Coming to the Harrier, it is only available with a diesel engine which is surprisingly the same as the Hector. Tata also uses the same Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes the same power. However, you also get an automatic gearbox option which is missing in the Hector. Can MG bring a diesel automatic for the new car? Only time will tell.

Should you wait for the new Hector?

MG will most likely unveil the Hector sometime next month. In terms of features, the Hector would be leading the game. Moreover, if you are looking for a petrol SUV, this could be your choice as Harrier doesn’t get a petrol engine. So, all in all, you should definitely wait for the new Hector. Talking about the pricing, the prices of Hector are not yet revealed but it is highly likely to be on the premium side than the Harrier. According to previous media reports, the upcoming Hector could see a price hike of Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom) over the current car.
