Many brands like Nissan, Maruti, Skoda, etc. are yet to enter the EV space in India. One of them is the French automaker, Renault. Currently, it only has petrol-powered cars in its portfolio. It lacks the availability of a proper EV in the India lineup. EVs are gradually developing pace in the country and our homegrown Tata automaker is leading it. Tata has extensive plans in the EV segment with the upcoming Tiago EV. The launch of this EV would kickstart the hatchback EV segment and Renault could bring one of its electric vehicle to rival it. Renault sells the K-ZE in global markets which is basically the electrified version of the Kwid. If the brand plans to bring it to India, it could come with a slew of changes. Overall, the silhouette is identical to the regular Kwid but it surely gets some design upgrades. For starters, the car gets some blue elements along with the EV badging. You can even spot the blue inserts on interior bits. What about features? The feature list could expand to attract more buyers.

The Kwid EV, if brought to India can be expected in the affordable range. However, the Tiago EV is expected to keep the ‘Most affordable EV’ title for sometime. The mechanical bits include a 45bhp electric motor paired to a 26kWh battery pack. The global version offers a claimed range of 260kms. A real-world range of around 150kms can be expected.

Renault has hinted in the past that it could bring the Kwid EV if the demands are high. Currently, there is no official confirmation regarding its launch. Moreover, if the Kwid EV is launched, it could be a great competitor for the Tiago EV and the upcoming MG Air EV. What about the pricing? When compared to its global pricing, the Indian cost could fall around Rs 10 lakh. However, only time would tell its target pricing.

As both cars could go under the same category, it solely depends on the pricing. If Renault plans to bring it into an affordable price bracket, Tiago EV would face heavy competition.
