The 7-seater segment has always been popular in India. All types of 7-seaters are in high demand, especially the affordable ones. In 2019, Renault tried their hand in this segment with Triber. Currently, the Triber is the most affordable MPV in the Indian market, however its sales can only be deemed decent when compared to cars like the Ertiga and the Carens. For context, Renault sold 3,346 units of the Triber in July. In comparison, Maruti sold 10,423 units of the Ertiga. What is the reason behind this? The main reason is the under-powered engine and an ageing product cycle. But, Renault can solve these problems. How? By bringing an update. In today’s article, we will talk about this affordable 7-seater and what update can it get.

Better engine

The major complaint with the Triber has been its lethargic engine. Currently, the Triber comes with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing 72bhp & 96Nm of torque (same engine which powers the Kwid). This engine comes mated to a five-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. The engine is adequate on normal roads or when the car is not full occupied, but struggles a lot when occupied by five adults or while going uphill. What can Reanult do? It could plonk the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that powers the Kiger. This engine is capable of producing 99bhp & 160Nm of torque. It will definitely give the Triber a much-needed power boost. To spice up the deal, Renault could also offer a CVT gearbox on this engine. WIth this combination, the Triber could definitely find more buyers.

Updated exterior

The updated Triber could get some kind of turbo badging on the exterior. This will help it distinguish itself from the non-turbo variants. Renault could add a bunch of vibrant colours to the Triber to enhance its look. We don’t think Renault will fiddle much with the design, however, the headlamps and tail lamps could be revamped. It could also get updated alloy wheels.

Affordable 7-seater – Interior & Features

The Triber facelift could get a new dashboard layout with a new upholstery & dual-tone interiors. Renault could add a new music system and an updated touchscreen infotainment system, something similar to the Kiger. What about other features? Renault could give it wireless charging and ambient lighting as well to enhance the overall appeal of this affordable 7-seater. Another thing Renault could do is by adding some connected car features to the Triber. With that being said, the brand does need to strike a balance between the pricing and the offerings to maintain its profitability.

Pricing

Although there are no confirmed reports from the brand, we expect a facelift to be in the works. Moreover, with the above-mentioned additions (expected), we expect a price increase of close to Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 per variant. Would you consider the Triber if Renault updates it with these features? Do let us know in the comments.

  • I hope that the Triber receives Nissans 1.2 liter, series hybrid powerplant. Would happily upgrade to one. My triber AMT is 2 years old. Love it.

    Awesome pictures 😉
