Tata Nexon is a car that is ruling the sales chart. In the last six to seven months, Nexon has topped the SUV sales chart, clearly boasting its popularity in the market. One big reason behind this success has been Tata’s habit of consistently updating the Nexon to keep it fresh against the competition. Safety, features, engine and aggressive pricing have really helped the Nexon shine. The Nexon apart from this also offers decent mileage, but Tata is looking to further increase its VFM quotient. How will Tata do this? The brand is planning to launch Nexon CNG variants to attract mileage-conscious customers. In today’s article, we will talk about this Tata Nexon special variant.

Why CNG?

As mentioned above, the Nexon has decent mileage figures, but high fuel prices have really manipulated buyers’ mindset. Isn’t the diesel engine a fuel-efficient unit? Yes, diesel is an option that mileage-conscious buyers choose, but the upcoming emissions norms have made diesel buyers wary. The next best option thus comes out to be a CNG setup. CNG along with being cost-effective offers impressive mileage figures.

What could change?

Other than the obvious addition of the CNG kit, what other changes could the Nexon get? Design-wise, we don’t expect any major changes on the Nexon CNG. The only change will be the CNG badging on the exterior. Also, the boot will be compromised with the added CNG tank. What about the specifications? The CNG will be paired to the only-available 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine capable of producing 118bhp & 170Nm of torque. The performance is however expected to drop with the CNG kit. Could it get a special edition for the CNG? Only time will tell. Moreover, one thing to note here is that the Nexon CNG, if launched before any other competitor’s CNG variant, would become the first turbocharged car to get a CNG variant.

Nexon CNG – Launch timeline & Pricing

Nexon CNG

There is no official confirmation from Tata regarding the Nexon CNG, but it has already been spotted under testing on quite a few occasions. Moreover, other competition cars like the Sonet & Brezza are mostly expected to come with CNG variants in the near future. So we could see Nexon CNG in the future. What about the price hike? We expect a price hike of Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 depending upon the variants. One more thing to keep in mind is that CNG option could be offered with higher variants, something that we saw with the Tiago iCNG & Tigor iCNG. Would you be interested in the Nexon CNG?
