Honda in India has always been known for its reliable & upmarket cars. The brand has over the years given multiple cars that buyers still cherish. However, the past few years have been tough for the brand since the popularity of sedans took a hit as most buyers in the market are looking for SUVs. Currently, Honda’s sales are majorly being taken care of by the City and the Amaze and the brand has no SUV in its line-up. Honda has however realised its mistake and has started work on two SUVs for the market. Both SUVs will be targeting two popular segments. One of them will sit as a compact SUV. Specifications
The Honda compact SUV will come based on the Amaze platform as using this platform will help the brand keep costs in check. Honda currently has a 1.2-litre petrol engine (90bhp & 110Nm of torque) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (99bhp & 200Nm of torque) to power the Amaze. Moreover, both these engines come mated to manual and CVT gearboxes. Now, these engines could be used to power the compact SUV as well, however, there could be an issue. Looking at the power figures, these engines would not be able to give this SUV an edge and coming in this late, it would definitely need an edge over the established, matured competition. We expect Honda to re-tune these engines to produce more power. The brand could also bring in a turbocharged petrol engine. This will not only help it boost the power figures but will also help in keeping the taxations low.
Honda compact SUV – Design
Honda has been following a consistent design with its modern cars. The headlights have become slim yet sharp. We expect the same to be the case with this compact SUV as well. The design is expected to be kept modern with muscular body elements to give it a chunky road presence. LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, subtle front grille, sharp-looking alloys are expected to be some of the elements that accentuate the road presence of this SUV.
Features
The Honda compact SUV is expected to come loaded with features. The compact SUV space is one with the maximum competition and the players at the top are the ones that have modern features on offer. This is the same reason why the new Maruti Brezza will be coming with a host of new features. Honda compact SUV is expected to come with features like a big touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, etc. Could ADAS be on offer? As of now, the City Hybrid is the only car from Honda to come with ADAS and it sits at quite a premium in the market. So, looking at the current situation, expecting ADAS from this SUV might be misjudged. However, there are chances that by the time this SUV hits the Indian shores, ADAS could have become mainstream in the segment. So, nothing can be commented as of now.
Honda compact SUV – Launch
