The Activa has been the backbone of Honda’s success in the two-wheeler segment. Such has been its popularity that many people refer to all scooters as an Activa. This is why so many people have been waiting for an electric version of the Activa. But, Honda seems to have postponed the Activa electric launch. According to the new development, it will be launching a different electric scooter first. In today’s article, we will talk about the postponed Honda Activa electric plan.

New development

Activa electric plan

Honda has recently filed a patent for a new electric scooter called U-Go in the Indian market. So why the U-Go? The U-Go is Honda’s entry-level offering in the international markets. So Honda might be looking to start its EV journey in India with the U-Go itself.

U-Go design

The U-Go has a fairly simple and compact design that could do well in India. The front of the car is flat with a cylindrical shaped headlamp. Indicators are integrated on the handle. Coming to the side profile, it gets a flat footboard and footpegs integrated into the body. At the rear, we get to see a blacked-out portion around the lights.

Globally, the U-Go comes with two motor options. The higher trim comes with a 1.2kW motor, while the lower trim comes with a 0.8kW motor. What about the range figures? The U-Go comes with twin batteries with 1.4kWh each. Both these batteries give it a range of 130km on a single charge.

So what about the Activa electric plan?

Though Honda has patented the U-Go, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will launch it in India. But it could be a good entry point for Honda into the EV segment. Once the infrastructure is ready, Honda can bring the Activa electric. This is because the Activa electric is quite important for Honda. So, Honda will be looking to bring the Activa electric only when it is 100% sure about its success.
