Although SUVs are in great demand in the country, there is not a single product that is sold with a factory-fitted CNG kit as of today. However this is soon set to change. Today, Toyota has finally opened bookings of the HyRyder CNG. A large enough SUV with space, features and now a new fuel option. So finally CNG SUVs are here. CNG is one of the most pocket-friendly option for daily commuting. However, one of the biggest drawbacks of CNG is the loss in power figures which turns off quite a few buyers. If you are ready to compromise on performance (sightly) in exchange for cheapest running costs, a CNG car becomes a great option for you. In this article, we have mentioned five upcoming SUVs with factory-fitted CNG kits.

Tata Punch CNG

Currently, Tata has the i-CNG technology which they use to power the Tiago CNG and the Tigor CNG. Next, the brand is expected to add CNG kit to the Punch as well and call it the ‘Punch I-CNG’. The CNG kit could be added to its 1.2-litre petrol engine. As mentioned above, we might get to see some drop in the power figures, however, the Punch CNG would become more pocket friendly to drive.

Maruti Brezza CNG SUVs

The Maruti Brezza is one of the most popular compact SUVs in India. It does impressive sales figures for Maruti. The Brezza is all set to get a factory fitted CNG option. The above car was spotted in a factory yard with CNG fitted. So the launch is just around the corner. Maruti might give the CNG option to almost all variants of the Brezza. Could it also be the first car with automatic gearbox plus CNG? We will have to wait and find out. CNG SUVs with an automatic gearbox could be a good option to have for buyers in the future.

Kia Sonet CNG

A Kia Sonet was spotted testing with a CNG kit a while ago. The variant under testing came powered by the brand’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. This could be a hint that Kia could be planning to bring in the CNG kit mated to the turbocharged petrol engine. Now, Kia Sonet offers this engine with a seven-speed DCT and the iMT gearboxes. Now, if the brand is testing the turbo-petrol unit with a CNG setup, could it mean that we could soon get to see India’s first automatic CNG car? What do you think?

CNG SUVs – Hyundai Venue

Hyundai Venue facelift is all set to come by mid-June. With this update, Hyundai would be focusing on improving the design and is also expected to bring in some more features for the this nameplate. However, what we could also get to see is factory-fitted CNG variants with the Venue facelift. Similar to the Sonet, we expect the CNG setup to come mated to the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Since Kia and Hyundai are sister companies, the Venue too could be available with an automatic CNG setup.

CNG SUVs – Hyundai Alcazar CNG

CNG SUVs

The speculations of Hyundai working on a CNG-powered Alcazar have been doing rounds since the test car was spotted testing. The Alcazar is a premium seven-seater SUV. If Hyundai launches the Alcazar with a CNG kit, it would officially become the first seven-seater SUV to come with this combination.
