Tata to bring a special SUV just like Mahindra
The trend of SUVs has grown very well in the Indian market. SUV segment has gone through phases in the country. Earlier, only big, full size SUVs were considered in the category, however, over the years, small, compact cars with SUV-like characteristic also got added to this category. The Indian SUV space is now set to go through another phase. Upcoming SUVs in India will be sporty-looking machines. Mahindra showcased their sporty SUV-coupe, the XUV Aero during the Auto Expo 2020. This particular SUV is expected to be called the XUV900. Now, Tata is set to bring an SUV coupe in the coming months. In this article, we have discuss the special SUV from Tata.
Design
Tata’s new SUV will be a coupe-styled product. It will be completely based on the Nexon. Underneath, it will get the Nexon’s X1 platform and will be extended to have a longer wheelbase. From the sides, the coupe body style will be evident. Overall, it is expected to be a muscular SUV similar to the Nexon. Being a Nexon underneath, it is expected to come with high safety rating as well.
Features
The coupe SUV’s interior is expected to be similar to the Nexon. So, we can expect it to come with comfortable seating. Features from Nexon like ventilated seats, air purifier, premium Harman sound system, sunroof, connected car tech, etc. are expected to be on offer. Additionally, features like the 360-degree parking camera and level-two ADAS for enhanced safety could also be a part of the feature list.
Engine options
Tata is expected to strongly position this special SUV in the market. This SUV is thus expected to come with powerful petrol and diesel engines. The car is mostly expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Tata has already been developing a new turbo-petrol engine for the Harrier and the Safari. The SUV coupe might come powered by the naturally-aspirated setup of the same engine. We are also expecting to see the same car in an electric avatar. Tata might be looking to expand its electric portfolio as well with this car.
Price and conclusion
The SUV coupe from Tata might launch with a price tag of somewhere around Rs 11 lakhs (ex-showroom). At this price, it would be competing with the SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, etc.
