It has been reported that Toyota has imported its Aygo to India for testing and R&D purposes. The name Aygo is derived from ‘i-go’. The model imported to India is the 2nd generation Aygo.

Toyota has failed to create a mark for itself in the Indian hatchback segment but will continue trying something new for years to come. Now, the Japanese manufacturer has brought in the quirky looking Aygo hatchback to India for R&D and testing purpose.

The hatchback has been imported at a declared value between Rs. 11 – 16 lakh.

The Aygo comes powered by a 1.0L petrol motor producing 68 PS of power and 95 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox or an X-Shift AMT unit. The Aygo can perform a 0-100 kmph stint in 14.2 seconds and can deliver 23.8 kmpl.

The Aygo shares its mechanicals with the Citroen C1 & Peugeot 108.

It is being sold as a city car since 2005 and is built primarily at the Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile Czech (TPCA) joint venture in Czech Republic.

Expect the Aygo to be at the Toyota stands at the Auto Expo next month, to gauge customer feedback.
