India’s best selling compact sedan, the Maruti Suzuki DZire has been launched with AMT (automated manual transmission) at INR 9.20 lakhs (on-road, Delhi). The DZire is the first diesel car with AMT, from Maruti stables which they call Auto Gear Shift (AGS). The AMT variant will be available only in the ZDi trim.

The DZire is the fourth car from Maruti Suzuki to come with AGS technology, the other three being Alto, Celerio, and WagonR, launched recently. The AGS is an AMT technology developed by Fiat-owned Magneti Marelli and has become very successful in a very short span of time, in India. The fact that the convenience of the AMT along with good fuel efficiency comes at a reasonable price has wooed urban Indian customers like never before, who find it a boon, especially in heavy traffic conditions.

This convenience is available to them at an attractive price, without any compromise on fuel efficiency. Maruti Suzuki introduced the AGS technology in India with Celerio and we currently offer it in Alto K10 and WagonR also. It has been very well accepted by customers. We are delighted to now offer Auto Gear Shift technology in DZire diesel as well.” He added, “DZire, one of India’s most successful cars ever, will become even more attractive with the convenience of Auto Gear Shift technology.”

The DZire with AGS will deliver a fuel efficiency of 26.59 km/l, which is the same as that of the manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki DZire has been a category leader since its launch and has further strengthened the Company’s presence in the sedan segment. The DZire AMT will compete directly with the Tata Zest AMT, which also comes with a diesel engine.
