Why does Hyundai Santro have bad sales?
The first-generation of the Hyundai Santro was an amazing hit for the company. It was a proper tall-body hatchback. The current generation Santro is available with options of petrol and CNG. Under the hood, it gets a 1.1-litre petrol engine that makes 68bhp & 99Nm of torque. Now, the current generation Santro does not garner good sales figures. In Dec 2022, only 1,298 units of Santro were sold while in Jan 2022, only 1,252 units were sold. There are various reasons why the Hyundai Santro does not get great sales. Overpriced
According to what Santro offers, it is a bit overpriced and at the same time, many buyers think it’s better to get the next hatchback from Hyundai, the Grand i10 Nios. Had the pricing been more competitive, we could have expected better sales for this hatchback.
Hyundai Santro sales – Strong Competitors
The hatchback segment consists of multiple top-selling cars. Due to the competition, people have various options and think of buying the best car. Here, the Santro competes with Suzuki S-Presso, Maruti Celerio, Maruti WagonR, Hyundai i10 Nios, Tata Tiago and the Renault Kwid. One of the reasons people skip the Santro is the Grand i10 Nios, it’s bigger sibling.
Size and comfort
Comfort is a point that matters a lot while buying a car. It is not a comfortable car due to its compact feel. Other cars like the Celerio and i10 Nios feel bigger than this.
Hyundai Santro sales – Bad mileage
Even though the Santro has a 1.1-litre petrol engine, it does not offer great mileage. The company claims 20.3kmpl (ARAI-mileage) but it gives very little on the road in real life. If you think the CNG will give a good mileage, then the answer is no. The Santro CNG has a claimed ARAI mileage of 30.5kmpl. The CNG also doesn’t give good mileage figures as per the claimed ones. Customer reviews are very poor for the car due to this reason.
