Mercedes-Benz are on-track to a successful unveiling of the new, 2016 E-Class executive sedan to fans worldwide at the 2016 edition of the Motor Show in Detroit, sometime in mid-January. Buyers in Germany, will be able to pre-order their new E-Class from 16th January onwards. Mercedes have given the new E-Class thorough once-over, from the interior to the exterior and even under the hood.

The 2016 E-Class will be an evolution on the outgoing model and will get a host of revisions that should put it firmly in the top-spot. The new E-Class is heavily influenced by both its siblings. While it draws upon the C-Class as well as the S-Class for design tips, it has borrowed extensively from the latter when it comes to being loaded with passenger features. On the powertrain front, Mercedes is expected to up the ante and offer the new E-Class with multiple options.

The 2016 E-Class engine range with begin with 2.0 litre petrol and diesel engines, both in quad-cylinder format. Those seeking a bit more oomph, can opt for the all-new, inline-six engine with a 3.0 litre displacement, once-again, in petrol as well as diesel options.

And then there’s the range-topping AMG edition which with get the company’s signature, twin-turbo V8, in 4.0 litre guise. On the transmission front, all models will be offered with the nine-speed, 9G-TRONIC automatic-gearbox as standard. Meanwhile, the AMG badged E-Class, could also come with 4Matic AWD on-board.

The E-Class has been the mainstay of Mercedes’ Indian operations and the new-generation E should go on to have a successful launch, once it is introduced in India, sometime late next year.

The company is likely to take the CBU route initially, with local assembly ops scheduled to begin from 2017.
