In India, the midsize SUV segment is one of the hottest segments and is mainly dominated by Hyundai Creta. There are other carmakers like Skoda, Volkswagen, Renaut, Nissan,  and  MG  active in this segment. Carmakers like Maruti and Toyota are currently missing the action, but not for long as they plan to enter this segment with an all-new product.  In this article, we will discuss the Toyota Creta rival that is being planned for a launch very soon.

New Toyota Creta Rival SUV

Maruti Toyota SUV

Previously Maruti Suzuki tried to enter the mid-size SUV segment with S-Cross but due to its crossover look and lack of SUV feel, buyers were not attracted to this car. This time both Toyota and Maruti Suzuki will bring in all new products that will be built by Toyota and supplied to Maruti. This new SUV from Toyota will be based on the Daihatsu sourced modular platform called the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture).  The DNGA platform underpins a number of Toyota and Daihatsu models overseas and has been specially designed keeping emerging markets in mind. Maruti has codenamed their new SUV as YFG while Toyota has codenamed it as D22. This new SUV will be built by Toyota at their Bidadi plant located in Karnataka.

What powers this new SUV

Toyota Hybrid engine

Currently, the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Vitara Brezza, and Urban Cruiser use Maruti’s ‘Smart Hybrid’ mild-hybrid technology. The new Toyota SUV will use a proper hybrid technology that is currently seen in the Camry. This will enable the SUV to run on electric power for a short duration when there is enough charge in its battery. This will eventually improve the overall fuel economy in city driving conditions. The mild-hybrid system available on Maruti cars only includes engine start-stop and a mild electric boost to the petrol engine. The engine offered in this SUV will be the same 1.5-litre petrol engine from Maruti Suzuki.

Launch of Toyota Creta Rival

Toyota SUV

This Toyota-Maruti mid-size SUV will be an important product for both brands. They will mostly be launching this new SUV by this festive season during Diwali. Before that, we can expect the new generation of Baleno and Vitara Brezza coming from Maruti followed by the new generation Glanza and Urban Cruiser from Toyota.
