India is known for big families. Families that live together, dine together, and travel together. Carmakers have sensed this and have started introducing seven-seater SUVs and MPVs in India. In this article, we will discuss the upcoming seven-seaters of 2022.

Kia Carens

The recently unveiled Kia Carens is soon expected to be seen in dealer showrooms. The Carens is available in six-seater and seven-seater configurations. The Carens is offered with three engine options –the 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 113bhp and 144Nm of torque, the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 138bhp, and 242Nm of torque. While the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. The Kia Carens comes with six airbags as a standard feature across all variants. The official launch of Kia Carens is expected in February 2022.

Toyota Rumion

Toyota recently unveiled its seven-seater MPV for the South African market, the Rumion. They have trademarked the same name in India. This MPV is going to be the re-badged version of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and we expect the launch within the next few months. This new Toyota MPV will have exteriors and interiors similar to the Ertiga. We do expect a few cosmetic changes here and there. The Rumion will be powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with SHVS mild-hybrid technology as seen in the Maruti Ertiga.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Facelift

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is about to get a facelift in 2022. The Ertiga has been a popular choice of car buyers when it comes to MPVs in India. The car has been a reliable and value-for-money product from Maruti. The Ertiga is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The Eritga will also be offered in a CNG variant. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga facelift is expected to be launched in early 2022.

Hyundai Stargazer – Upcoming seven-seaters

Hyundai has been in news for testing a seven-seater MPV in India. We expect this MPV to be the Hyundai Stargazer that was recently spotted testing in Indonesia and South Korea. The MPV will be designed and developed especially for the Asian markets. The Stargazer is expected to be equipped with ADAS, Hyundai SmartSense features, and a sunroof. This new Hyundai MPV will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Tata Safari Petrol

Tata Harrier and Safari were recently spotted testing a petrol variant of these SUVs. The Safari petrol will be the next SUV that will be launched by Tata Motors in 2022. The SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. Tata Motors is working on this petrol engine and will be offered with manual and an automatic gearbox in the Tata Safari. This SUV is expected to be launched in the second half of 2022.

Jeep Meridian – Upcoming seven-seaters

Jeep Meridian is a seven-seater SUV that will be the next product from the American carmaker in India. The Meridian has also been spotted frequently during its testing with heavy camouflaged in India. The Jeep Meridian is based on the brand’s successful SUV the Compass. The Meridian shares design and styling with the Jeep. The difference between these two SUVs will be longer wheelbase and bigger dimensions along with some additional features. The Jeep Meridian will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. The AWD variant will be offered in the top-end variants of the Meridian. The Jeep Meridian is expected to reach dealer showrooms by early 2022.

New Generation Mahindra Scorpio

The new generation Mahindra Scorpio is another SUV that is spotted multiple times on Indian roads during its testing. The testing of this SUV seems to be in its final stages as recent spy shots of the New generation Scorpio seem to be a production-ready version of the SUV. The new generation Mahindra Scorpio will have forward-facing third-row seats. The new Scorpio will be powered by a 2.0-litre mHawk diesel that produces 155bhp and 360Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 150bhp and 300Nm of torque. The SUV will be offered with a manual and an automatic gearbox to choose from. The new generation Mahindra Scorpio is ready to debut in mid 2022.
