Maruti is one of the most successful brands in India due to its affordable car lineup. It dominates the entry-level car segment and is the prefered choice of first-time buyers. Their Alto replaced the iconic 800 and successfully did so. But the Alto has gotten a bit outdated and needs an update. Fortunately, Maruti is working on the newer generation of Alto. In today’s article, we will be looking at India’s most affordable car to get big updates.

India’s most affordable car design

Design-wise, the new generation will get a curvy design. It will sport a completely new front end with a new grille with pearl-shaped projector headlamps. The side profile is expected to remain similar to the current model. At the rear, it will get squared off tail lamps. Top-spec variants might also get alloy wheels. In the interior, it will get a major overhaul. A modern dashboard layout is expected with a new AC vent design, new upholstery and a new multi-function steering wheel.

The new-generation Alto will be based on the Heartect platform. Hopefully, this can improve the safety of the Alto. Maruti should really look to improve the structural integrity of their cars. A new platform can also help Maruti to use a bigger engine on the Alto. It can bring the 1000cc engine seen on the Maruti S-Presso.

India’s most affordable car features

Due to its budget pricing, we can’t expect a lot of features on the Alto. But we expect Maruti to load the new generation with a decent amount of features. Some of the expected features include touchscreen infotainment, ABS with EBD, rear wipers, dual airbags and all four-power windows.

Pricing and launch

India's most affordable car

Like other Maruti cars, the launch of the new Alto has been delayed due to the pandemic. But the car has been spotted frequently in testing, hinting at launch in 2022. The pricing of the current-gen starts from Rs 3.73 lakh and goes to Rs 5.45 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). So we can expect an increase of Rs 30k to 40k over the current price.
