The boxy design and long bonnet enhance the muscularity of the Mahindra Scorpio. The Scorpio also gets a ladder-frame chassis. The Scorpio is currently available in five variants. All five variants get 17-inch wheels. The lower variants get steel wheels whereas the highest variant, S11 gets alloy wheels. The silver wheel is provided on the Scorpio S3 Plus variant. Black Steel rim wheels with wheel caps are provided on mid variants. Also, halogen headlamps are provided on the first two base variants and upper variants get LED headlights.

Along with the design and strong chassis the Scorpio also has a powerful engine to make it a complete SUV. The current BS6 Mahindra Scorpio comes with a 2.2 litre diesel engine that produces 140bhp and 320Nm torque. The Scorpio was also offered in a 4×4 variant and served well as an off-roader. Currently, the 4×4 variant of the Scorpio is discontinued, but the SUV still remains to be popular as a status symbol in rural and tier 2 cities.

The current pricing of the BS6 version of the Mahindra Scorpio starts at Rs 15.35 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for S3 Plus (Base variant) and goes up to Rs 20.88 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for S11 (top-end variant). The SUVs that compete against the Scorpio in terms of pricing are Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos, but there is a cult following for the Mahindra Scorpio and that will continue for years to come.
