2022 Toyota Ertiga – Will this be your next car?

Toyota Innova had set a benchmark in the MPV segment in India. Toyota is now planning to bring in a product in the MPV segment that will be placed below the Innova Crysta in terms of pricing. Toyota is in partnership with Maruti Suzuki. They already have two successful products, Baleno and Vitara Brezza from Maruti Suzuki. These cars are rebadged as Toyota Glanza and Toyota Urban Cruiser respectively, which have been available for sale at Toyota showrooms for quite some time now. Similarly, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga could be the next to be seen in the Toyota showroom. In this article, we will discuss what the Toyota Ertiga could offer its buyers.

2022 Toyota Ertiga Design

The exterior design of the Toyota Ertiga will be the same as the currently available Maruti Ertiga. There will be minor changes in the front along with the Toyota badging on the grille. The headlights and bumper will continue to be the same. The car will also continue to look similar from the rear and from the side. This car will be offered as a seven-seater with second-row bench seats with a 60:40 split.

Specifications

The Toyota Ertiga will get the same BS6-compliant petrol engine that is currently seen in the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Maruti Ertiga gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103bhp & 138Nm of torque paired to a five-speed manual and an automatic torque converter gearbox. The Maruti Ertiga is also offered in a CNG variant with a five-speed manual gearbox. However, Toyota will offer this car with 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre petrol with smart hybrid engine options.

Features

Similar to what Toyota has done with the Urban Cruiser, this new car from Toyota is also expected to get three variants; Mid, High, and Premium. The gearbox option of manual and automatic torque converter will be offered in all variants. Projector headlamps, 15-inch tyres, LED tail lamps will be prominent elements on the exterior front. A centre-mounted touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, roof-mounted AC vents for the second & third row, reverse parking camera, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity will be seen in the interiors of this car. Safety features included in this car will have dual airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and ISOFIX child seats.

Advantages

The advantage of buying the Toyota Ertiga over the Maruti Ertiga will be its service. The car will be serviced at a Toyota service station where the staff is trained to handle expensive cars like Toyota Fortuner and Innova Crysta. The manufacturer warranty offered by Maruti Suzuki for Ertiga is two years or 40,000 kilometres (whichever is earlier). However, Toyota offers a three years warranty period. Also, the resale value of Toyota cars will be slightly better than other brands.

Pricing and Launch

The Toyota-badged Ertiga is expected to launch by the second half of 2022. The car is expected to be priced around Rs 9 to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
