Rs 7 lakh car to take on the Maruti Baleno
In India, Volkswagen cars are famous for their European build quality and fun to drive character. However, Volkswagen has remained a niche brand in the Indian market. It is looking to change this image with its India-specific products under its “India 2.0” project. The Polo has been its best-selling car in India and its new-generation will surely continue this trend. The new-generation Polo can even take on the segment leader, Maruti Baleno once launched. Exterior design
The front end of the new-generation Polo will look sleek and sharp. It will get an LED DRL strip that will run through the grille, connecting the headlamps. The side profile will get a lot of sharp lines that will give it a bold look. It will also gets T-Roc inspired simple rear design. Other exterior highlights will include new alloys, different bumpers and fog lamps.
Rs 7 lakh car interior design
A lot of changes on the interior front are expected with the new-generation. It will get a modern-looking dashboard layout with a big infotainment system in the middle. This infotainment system will seamlessly integrate into the dashboard. We get to see this with the Volkswagen Taigun as well. Other than these, a three-spoke steering wheel, automatic climate control and a digital instrument cluster will be some of the other features expected with the car.
Specifications
The new-generation Polo will most likely be based on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform. Coming to the engine options, it is expected to come with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, the same engine that powers the Kushaq and Taigun. Another engine could be the 1.5-litre turbo petrol, but the likelihood of this happening is very slim. It will be quite a costly proposition for Volkswagen, which will make Polo significantly expensive. However, Volkswagen might bring a limited-edition for the enthusiasts with this engine.
Rs 7 lakh car features
Features have become an important selling point in the Indian market. Volkswagen will load the Polo with features like ambient lighting, a premium sound system, a big touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging and heated ORVMs. Globally, the Polo even gets adaptive cruise control and lane assist. Volkswagen should try to bring these features to the Indian-spec as well in order to revolutionise the market.
Expected pricing and launch
Volkswagen will price Polo competitively to take on the competition. The pricing of the new-generation Polo is expected to start from Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). Though there is no official confirmation from Volkswagen regarding the new-generation Polo, but considering Skoda-Volkswagen’s new strategy, we expect Volkswagen to give it a new-generation update soon.
