Next Honda SUV – Not what you think

Honda India has a very small portfolio in India that is slowy going to become a problem if the brand does not do anything about it. The brand currently rules the mid-sized sedan segment with Honda City and the sub-four-metre compact sedan segment with the Amaze. Looking at the popularity of SUVs in India, Honda is working on a Civic-based SUV. In this article, we will discuss what the new Honda Civic-based SUV has to offer for buyers in India.

Design

Honda is working on an all-new SUVs that will be based on the Civic and will be placed between the HR-V and the CR-V. Currently, the HR-V is 4335mm in length and the CR-V is 4600mm in length. This new SUV will be around 4500mm in length. This new SUV will get a different design when compared to the HR-V and the CR-V. However, the front grille and some design elements could be similar to the recently unveiled SUV RS. The new SUV is expected to be rugged and adventurous in terms of design and styling. This new Honda SUV being longer than the HR-V will offer more legroom and boot space.

Honda SUV Engine

This new SUV from Honda is expected to share the same platform that is currently used by the new-generation Honda Civic. This also could lead to both cars sharing the same engine options as well. The new SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 182 bhp and comes mated to a CVT transmission. We also expect Honda to offer the other 1.5-litre petrol engine with Honda’s e:HEV hybrid technology making this SUV more fuel-efficient.

Launch

This new SUV is scheduled for a global debut around September 2022. However, there are very slim chances of this SUV making its way to India. The SUV that will be coming to India will be another new SUV from Honda that will be sharing its underpinnings with the City Sedan. This SUV will be placed in the segment which is currently ruled by Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
