Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest carmaker with more than 45% market share. The brand is known for its fuel-efficient cars, good service network, and good resale value. However, there are some problems with Maruti Suzuki as a brand. In this article, we will discuss five such problems that we observe in Maruti Suzuki cars.

Built Quality

Alto NCAP score

Poor build quality has been an ongoing issue with Maruti Suzuki cars. The cars barely score any stars at the Global NCAP testing with the Maruti Vitara Brezza being the only exception in its portfolio that managed to score a four-star rating. All other cars have scored poorly. Consumers these days have become more safety-conscious. They are looking for improved safety and better build quality.

No car in the EV segment

Maruti Cars

Maruti Suzuki as a brand has the maximum number of cars that are targeted towards the masses, budget-friendly, and fuel-efficient. While every other carmaker in the country is trying to launch an electric vehicle in the market, Maruti Suzuki seems to have no plans to enter the EV segment. With a wide service network and even access to tier two and tier three cities, it will be easy for Maruti to offer a budget-friendly EV that will be made for the masses.

Styling and Interiors

Maruti Vitara Brezza Interiors

Maruti Suzuki is also known for offering basic creature comforts in their cars. The car designs lack a wow factor and satisfy only the basic purpose of owning a car. The interiors of the cars from Maruti Suzuki are also quite basic. The quality of the plastic used in the interiors is not up to the mark. Other brands that compete with Maruti Suzuki offer better interiors that feel and look more premium. Along with better safety, consumers are also looking for better styling and premium quality of interiors.

Lack of Innovation

New Celerio

Maruti Suzuki as a brand seems to lack innovation. They have not launched any new car for the last two years. Just a few cosmetic changes and rebadging or a new name to the same old product has been going on. Recently launched Celerio is the brand’s new offering after almost a gap of two years. While other brands are planning to launch a new product every six months or every quarter, Maruti Suzuki has no new product to be offered in the market. This point will hopefully change with the arrival of the new-generation Vitara Brezza, facelifted Baleno and the Maruti Jimny.

Missing Diesel Engine

Maruti Ciaz engine

After BS6 norms were implemented, Maruti Suzuki discontinued the diesel engine they used to offer. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza with a diesel engine was a popular product. While the brand has been able to sustain it place in the market with an only petrol portfolio, we think many who want cars like the SCross and Ciaz end up buying their rivals like the Creta and Honda City because of the lack of a diesel offering. Maruti also should look at catering to buyers who want a more performance oriented car with turbo petrol engines.

Maruti Suzuki should start working on its shortcoming to avoid losing its grip on the market. If you have car buying doubts click here to ask! Get the lowest price for car insurance here.
