Maruti Punch competition to come next year
Maruti as a brand sells around 40 to 50 percent of the total cars sold in India every year. The brand is known for its reliability, affordable spares, fuel efficiency, and a strong network of service centers. There is news of Maruti developing a new SUV that will be based on its premium hatchback, the Baleno. This new car from Maruti could be a potential rival of the Tata Punch. Maruti Platform
The new SUV that is being planned by Maruti is codenamed as “YTB”. This new car will be built on the Heartect platform just like the Baleno. The driving experience will be enhanced with reduced NVH levels, along with the good ride and handling as the car is built on the Heartect platform.
Design
The YTB is expected to get a coupe-inspired design with some similarities to the Futuro-E concept car that was on display at the Auto Expo 2020. This new car Is expected to be an overall different car as it will be taller than the existing Baleno. Being taller than Baleno it will offer more spacious interiors. YTB is said to borrow some design elements from the current Baleno with updated interiors.
Specifications
The new car from Maruti Suzuki will share the same engine that is available in the Baleno. A 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 82bhp and 113Nm of torque that will be mated to a five-speed manual and a CVT gearbox will be used in the YTB. The Baleno also gets a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 113Nm of torque that is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Maruti’s Plans
There have been some serious losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. Maruti Suzuki has some ambitious plans to sell the maximum number of cars to recover the losses incurred during the lockdown. Maruti is planning to launch a minimum of five new cars for better market penetration. New generation Vitara Brezza and Jimny are expected to be seen in the Indian market. Also, news of new generation Celerio coming to India makes the “five-car plan” seem possible for Maruti.
