Maruti is the biggest and most successful car manufacturer in the Indian market. The main contributors to this are its value for money cars. The brand recently launched its new-generation Celerio, which is an important product for the company. Maruti will now be looking to bring a NEXA product. The NEXA products offer a more premium experience than normal Maruti cars. This new NEXA product will be the XL5. In today’s article, we will discuss this Rs 6 lakh Maruti Nexa car.

The XL5 is a premium version of the WagonR, carrying over its stance and boxy look. It will get eyebrow DRLs with headlamps below them. Other changes over the WagonR will be redesigned bumpers, blacked out grille with chrome element, new alloy wheels, LED headlamps and NEXA specific colours. The rest of the design is expected to remain similar to the WagonR.

The XL5 being a NEXA product will get premium interiors. It will get all-black interiors with a well laid out dashboard. Leather upholstery & seats might be on offer in the XL5. Other expected additions in the interiors will include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, modern instrument cluster, central armrest and adjustable headrests for the rear passengers.

Specifications

Heartect

The XL5 will be based on the Heartect platform, similar to all new Maruti cars. The XL5 will get the same engine options as the WagonR. It will come with a 1.0-litre petrol engine capable of producing 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. The second engine is a 1.2-litre petrol engine capable of producing 81bhp and 113Nm of torque. It might also come with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Transmission options will include a manual and an AMT gearbox.

The XL5 will get more comfort features than the WagonR. It will get Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system. Other expected features will include automatic climate control, cruise control, reverse parking camera, ISOFIX and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Safety equipment will include dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.

Pricing and rivals

The XL5 will be slightly more expensive than the WagonR due to it being a NEXA product. The pricing of the XL5 is expected to start from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz.
