Renault has had something of a runaway hit in the Duster that’s proved to be extremely popular with customers.

Their recently launched budget hatchback – the Kwid too has garnered a great deal of interest, setting an internal record of sort on the bookings front. Meanwhile, their MUV, the hugely capable Lodgy has been picking up on the sales front. A few of their products though, such as the Pulse hatchback and the Koleos crossover SUV haven’t done quite as well in comparison. The French automobile major has been working on the successor to the latter, in a bid to have another go at sales success. Going by the codename – Renault HZG nee Renault HZJ, the crossover is based on the Nissan X-Trail. The car is expected to be unveiled to the world at the 2016 edition of the Motor Show in Geneva which will be held sometime in March.

A few renderings have surfaced recently that offer further insight on how this all-important crossover is likely to be. The styling shall follow the latest cues as have been seen on other Renault offerings such as the Espace, Talisman and Megane. So expect to see a shark-fin antenna towards the back of the roof.

A roof-mount spoiler too is likely to make an appearance, while the tail-lamps on the crossover SUV shall be LED units in a distinctive C-Shape design.

Speculation is rife that the new-crossover shall best the 4.

45 metre length of the Renault Kadjar and stretch a full five metres. The CMF platform that Renault shares with Nissan and is seen underpinning the latter’s X-Trail shall form the basis for the Koleos successor. The sharing agreement shall reportedly be extended to include the power-plants as well. So an engine family that includes twin 1.6 litre TCe petrol engines in 150 bhp and 200 bhp states of tune along with a 1.5 litre dCi diesel engine with a power output of 110 bhp are likely to be offered. Additionally, there’ll also be a 1.6 litre dCi diesel with 130 to 160 bhp on tap.

Renault are yet to indicate whether they’ll indeed be bringing in the Koleos successor to India. What’s could happen though is that they might end up offering the Grand Captur which is based on the Duster, complete with up-to-date styling and seating for seven on board, to rival the likes of Mahindra’s XUV500, for example.
