Hyundai Casper revealed – Packing it’s own PUNCH?

The Indian SUV market is expanding at a brisk rate. We have new SUVs entering this segment almost every month. Recently Tata had shown their micro-SUV, the Punch. The Punch is expected to revive the mirco-cars segment in India. Following the same lines, Hyundai is also expected to bring their micro-SUV Casper to India. Hyundai has revealed the design of Casper in South Korea. In today’s article, we will be looking at its design and other things we know.

Tata Punch revealed – Know the details.

Design

As mentioned above, Hyundai has unveiled the design of Casper. Hyundai has followed a quirky design on the Casper. From the front, it gets a closed grille with integrated turn indicators. Below this, there is another grille with speaker like circular inserts with circular headlamps. The bonnet has some sharp lines. Coming to the side profile, it gets a lot of curvy bits on both tyres. The door handles on the back door is integrated on the C-pillar like the Maruti Swift. The car also gets roof rails giving it an SUV look. At the rear, Hyundai has placed reflectors on the boot with Casper written in between. Like the front, the taillamps are also circular and placed on the lower bumper. Other exterior features will include a shark-fin antenna, sunroof and alloy wheels.

Engine specifications

Hyundai has not revealed the engine options for Casper. But it is expected to get Santro’s 1.1-litre petrol engine. The engine is capable of producing 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. Another engine could be the 1.2-litre petrol that powers the Grand i10 Nios. This engine produces 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. Transmission options will probably include a five-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. A diesel engine is not expected, but Hyundai can bring it to attract diesel buyers. To appease performance oriented buyers, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol could also be an option.

Features

The Casper is targeted towards a younger audience and hence will come loaded with features. It will come with keyless entry, cooled glovebox, premium sound system, connected car technology, big infotainment system, and reverse parking camera & sensors. Safety features will likely include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and ISOFIX.

Pricing and launch

Hyundai has unveiled the design and we expect it to soon launch the car in South Korea. This will most probably be followed by a launch in India. Hyundai Casper is expected to start somewhere around Rs 6 lakh (on-road). It will compete with the new Maruti Celerio, Ignis and the upcoming Tata Punch.
