The Q5 has always lived in the shadow of it’s elder sibling, the Audi Q7. Now that the face-lifted Q7 is out, the question brewing in the minds of fans is when will the Q5’s turn come?

The answer to that lies in the camouflaged car doing the cold weather testing rounds out there.

The Q5 on sale presently has begun to show its age and parent Audi has been in the know about it. As part of the redesign, the Q5 will shed it’s rounded exterior design for a more sharper look. The grille up-front grows a bit larger in size, while the headlamps have been re-profiled and are now a lot angular than before. The wing mirrors are door-mounted while the shoulder line is a lot more prominent than seen on the current car. Expect to see more LED elements in the tail-lights while the Q5 facelift also gets a tail-gate mounted spoiler. Audi must also be commended on the way they’ve integrated the new twin-exhaust system into the bumper.

While they’ve been at it, Audi is also likely to put the new Q5 through a weight-loss programme, with the new, A4 sedan’s platform having to play a major role in this.

There’s been no word from official sources, though others in the know opine that the new Q5 could drop up-to a hundred kilos on the current generation car. The engine and gearbox combinations will be shared with the A4. The SUV will be produced in Mexico at Audi’s José Chiapa plant with a launch happening sometime in the coming year.
