Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the introduction of the much-anticipated Jimny SUV in the Indian market. While the India launch is still some time away, Maruti hasn’t confirmed the launch timeline but we expect a market debut for the SUV in early 2022. Listed below are our 5 expectations from 5-door Jimny.

Should you consider the Skoda Kushaq base variant?

5-door Jimny Dimensions

The new 5-door Jimny is expected to measure around 3850mm, 1645mm and 1730mm in terms of length, width and height respectively. The car will be a sub-four metre SUV. Talking about its wheelbase, Jimny has 2550mm of wheelbase with 210mm of ground clearance. Tyre sizes to be offered on the car will range from 15-inch to 16-inch.

Engine options

The 5-door Jimny will come with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that will develop around 102bhp and 130Nm of torque, similar to the Jimny Sierra sold in Japan. Notably, the 1.5-litre engine is the same as in the Vitara Brezza, S-cross, Ciaz and the Ertiga  in our market. Gearbox options will include a five-speed manual and a four-speed torque convertor automatic. We expect the car to get engine start-stop feature.

5-door Jimny lite: what’s different?

Suzuki has already introduced a more affordable version of the Jimny in Australia and Europe. The 5-door Jimny will also get the lite treatment. It will miss out on some features like the alloy wheels, the SmartPlay infotainment system,  fog lamps and projector headlamps. However, it will get the black steel wheels and will come with the 2-DIN audio system that will be similar to the ones we see on Maruti Suzuki mid-spec models sold in our market. We expect four-wheel drive to come standard. There will not be any changes in terms of engine capacity.

Features:

The Jimny is expected to get connectivity features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with a 7-inch infotainment system on the dash. Moreover, we can assume that the SUV will get an all-wheel drive system in all variants. Other features like cruise control, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, automatic climate control and steering mounted controls. The second row of the car will get features like power sockets, rear AC vents and armrest with cup-holder.

Pricing

The Maruti 5-door Jimny is expected to be priced at Rs 10-12 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the SUV will have no direct rivals and could be seen as a competitor to other lifestyle SUVs like the larger and more powerful Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Force Gurkha.
