SsangYong has announced that it will be upgrading its Rexton SUV and this will involve upgrades to the engines and transmissions, in the UK. Facing upcoming competition, Ssangyong will be ready to compete with an improved product in the market, next year.

The flagship brand of Ssangyong, the South Korean brand, owned by Mahindra, the Rexton will get an upgraded Euro 6 compliant engine, the 2.

2-litre e-XDi220 diesel, replacing the previous 2.0-litre unit. It produces 176bhp and 400Nm  of torque. SsangYong offers a transmission choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic, under license from Mercedes-Benz, with low range available for off-roading, that splits the torque equally between the front and rear axles to provide all round traction, while ensuring optimum grip on difficult terrains.

The 2016 SsangYong Rexton is built on a steel ladder chassis, with a 3-tonne towing capacity, featuring a double wishbone and coil spring suspension on the front and a five link rigid axle with  coil springs at the rear. A multi-link rear suspension is also added for a more comfortable ride.

The Rexton comes in a five- or seven-seat configuration and gets features such as 18-inch Diamond cut alloy wheels, LED DRLs, front and rear parking sensors, leather interior, new multi-function leather wrapped steering wheel, satellite navigation system, amongst others.

The New powertrain will make the Rexton a better vehicle and it is also make its way into India.
