The force-feeding frenzy at Porsche came to a heady high with the shoehorning of the 3.0 litre twin-turbo motor into the Carrera. So it was only just that they turned their attention to the 911 Turbo. Apparently, there’s no such thing at too much power at Porsche and they went about in their own signature way, to massage the electronics and restyling the important bits on the 911 Turbo.

The result? Well, the blistering fast just went a lot more insane.

The twin-turbo motor still displaces 3.8 litres, but Porsche engineers have managed to eke out a further 20 bhp from it. This means that the 911 Turbo now puts out 533 bhp. The magicians then went to town on the Turbo S, working on the inlet ports, throwing in some new injection nozzles and more. They swapped out the existing turbo-chargers for larger units and raised the pressure coursing through the fuel system while they were at it, upping the output of the Turbo S to a whopping 572 bhp.

Phew!

On the styling front, there’s a new bumper at the front, while the one at the rear has been reworked. A new cover for the engine and bespoke tail-pipes too have been drafted in. What’s more, both cars get all-new 20-inch alloys with the 911 Turbo getting a seven-spoke design while the 911 Turbo S gets a ten-spoke design. A new steering wheel greets drivers as they settle in and there is a ‘Mode Switch’ that they can play with, to evoke responses bordering on automotive nirvana. Then there is the Motorsport inspired ‘Sport Response’ button. It results in others on the Autobahn appearing like they’re standing still, even as they wonder if they were overtaken by a lightning bolt! It isn’t all business either. There is a sublime sounding entertainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen from Bose and if that isn’t good enough for you, privileged owners can even opt for a bespoke setup from Burmester.

The 911 Turbo and the 911 Turbo S shall be launched at the Motor Show in Detroit in January, next year. Porsche shall be offering both cars in coupe as well as cabriolet body styles.
