Back at the launch of the TUV300, everyone had been wondering about the fate of the Quanto – Mahindra’s old-school, compact SUV. Sources close to the firm had maintained a stoic ‘wait & watch’ stand, giving rise to fears that the struggling baby SUV would be quietly given the boot. Well, if the images captured are an indicator, then this is hardly true. Quanto fans can now rejoice, for Mahindra is out testing a face lifted version of the compact SUV.

The tall-boy SUV is expected to get a host of cosmetic as well as mechanical changes in this refresh. Going by the pictures, it can be clearly seen that Mahindra would not be playing too much with the overall lines of the Quanto. LED DRL’s are expected to make an appearance. There’s a new grille that’s visible, and even the bumper appears to have been newly designed.

On the inside, the manufacturer is expected to raid the common parts bin, in a bid to rationalize tooling expenses. So expect to see plenty of parts sharing from larger siblings like the Scorpio and the Xylo. The list of cabin appointments and passenger features is sure to grow in size. A touch-screen infotainment system is likely to make an appearance, especially in the higher trim version.

The mHawk80 engine that can be found doing duty in the TUV300 is expected to be shared with the Quanto facelift. The three-cylinder diesel motor comes with strong performance specs, developing over 85 bhp of power and 230 Nm torque. Mahindra are expected to feature an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) option along with the regular, five-speed manual transmission version.

Going by the pictures of the car on test, the Quanto facelift appears to be on track for an Auto Expo 2016 debut with deliveries being scheduled in the weeks following the unveiling.
