With the growth of demand for dual-purpose bikes in the country, all manufacturers want a piece of the action. As of now, Suzuki does not have many bikes and they only tap into the entry segment motorcycle market of the country. The most logical move for them would be to bring an adventure bike to the market. Let’s take a look at why we think the Suzuki DR Z 400S makes for a good dual-purpose bike for India.

Specification

The Suzuki DR Z 400s gets a single cylinder 400 cc liquid-cooled engine. It makes 38 bhp of power and 39 Nm of torque. It has off-road protection for the engine with a bash plate and also sports spoked wheels. At the front, you get conventional forks and a mono-shock on offer. The suspension is long-travel and adjustable. In terms of styling, the bike is very functional and gets most of the simple features that you expect from a bike. It does fall short in terms of modern features like an LED headlamp and indicators. The speedometer is also analogue but it all goes hand in hand. The overall feel for the bike is very utilitarian and has got a functional feel to it.

Why for India?

Now if Suzuki plans to bring the V-Strom 250 to India it would not be a much of a good choice as it a twin-cylinder engine which will be expensive to manufacture. The Indian market does not care much about the configuration but looks up to how much power you get in the least amount of displacement and at a fair price. The DR-Z 400S with it’s single could bring in customers Suzuki is now losing to buyers who are hungry for a adventure bike/dual-sport in the country.

Suzuki DRZ 400s

With the Suzuki DR Z 400S, they could place it as a competition for the Royal Enfield Himalayan and KTM Adventure line-up. Now here is where the pricing comes into play. Suzuki can get away by pricing the Suzuki DR Z 400S slightly more expensive than the Royal Enfield Himalayan as it will be more performance oriented and have more off-road capability. It could also act as an upgrade for the Xpulse 200 owners who have been looking forward to another dual sport bike. And for potential KTM buyer, they could save some money and get reliability with this bike.
