There have been a lot of rumours on the internet that talk about Tata getting a 1000km sedan for Rs 25 lakhs. About 20-30 such stories I did see trickle on my Instagram feed, and I was shocked! A MG ZS EV or a Hyundai Kona with a range of approx 400kms for Rs 25 lakhs, how can anyone get an electric car for that price, with such a range. I will raise three questions here:

First, which car has 1000km range at the moment in the current electric options even globally? Second: How can a new electric car brand, achieve 1000km range in a country like ours where there isn’t a single gigabattery factory at the moment? Even if the battery is imported into India, with the amount of duties it will have to pay, it cannot justify Rs 25 lakh for the car.

Skoda Kushaq – 6 Unique Features

If you look at the current trends, all car brands are working towards making electric affordable, with products like Altroz in the pipeline, it is clear that the brand is looking at offering more in the affordable price range. So, the Tata eVision electric sedan isn’t coming at the moment, and if it will 1000km is super optimistic guess work by those who are posting it, or they have no clue about the finance to manufacture a vehicle.

Hyundai Alcazar Could look like This!

So, I will highly recommend to not believe in such rumour websites. At the moment, the upcoming new electric vehicles for India will be the Mahindra eKUV100 and the Tata Altroz EV. Both of these will try to make it a lot more affordable for those willing to get into the electric cars.
