The Mahindra Scorpio and the Hyundai Creta have been great products in their respective segments. The Scorpio’s base model (S3+) and Creta’s base model (E) sell at close price brackets. In this article, we will discuss both the base models and see which one is a better choice for you.

Hyundai Creta

The base model of the Scorpio is offered with a 2.2-litre diesel engine only. The Creta on the other hand is offered with a 1.5-litre diesel as well as petrol engine. The diesel unit on the Scorpio makes 120bhp and 280Nm of torque.

The Hyundai Creta’s diesel unit makes 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. The petrol unit on the other hand makes 113bhp and 144Nm of torque.

Tyres, ORVMs & Door handles

The Mahindra Scorpio gets 17-inch tyres whereas the Hyundai Creta gets 16-inch tyres on the base model. The Scorpio gets unpainted ORVMs and door handles, whereas the Creta gets body-coloured ORVMs and door handles straight from the base model.

The ORVMs on the Hyundai Creta can be electrically adjusted on the base model. The ORVMs on the Scorpio however have to be adjusted manually. Also, the Scorpio misses on turn indicators on ORVMs with the base model whereas the Hyundai Creta does get them.

LED DRLs & Projector headlamps

The Hyundai Creta starts getting projector headlamps and LED DRLs from the base model. The base model of the Mahindra Scorpio misses on both these features.

Seating capacity & comforts

The Hyundai Creta gets height adjustable driver seat from the base model itself. The Scorpio misses on this feature on its base model. The Creta also gets front armrest, whereas the Scorpio misses on this as well.

The Scorpio is offered as a 7-seater as well as a 9-seater from the base model. The Creta is however only offered as a 5-seater.

Power windows

The Hyundai Creta gets front and rear power windows from the base model. The Mahindra Scorpio also gets front and rear power windows, however, the controls for the windows are only limited to the front passengers on the Scorpio.

Gear Shift Indicator & Cooled glove box

The Hyundai Creta gets gear shift indicator and cooled glove box from the base model, whereas the Scorpio misses on both these features. Gear shift indicator assists in the precise shifting of gears.

Safety Features & Steering wheel

The Hyundai Creta gets some practical safety features like TPMS, speed sensing auto door lock and impact-sensing auto door unlock. The Mahindra Scorpio misses on all these features.

The Creta gets a D-cut steering wheel, whereas the Scorpio gets a circular steering wheel.

The Mahindra Scorpio S3+ (base model) comes with a price tag of Rs 14.28 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai). The Hyundai Creta E (base model) on the other hand comes at Rs 11.72 Lakh and Rs 12.47 Lakh (on-road Mumbai) respectively for the petrol and diesel engines.

Which one should you pick?

A buyer should go for the Scorpio if power and seating capacity are the main priorities. For all other requirements, the Creta base model makes a better choice. The Creta offers an upmarket feel on the inside as well as the outside.

The Hyundai Creta also offers features which are not available with the Scorpio’s base model.
