The iMT transmission was first showcased by Kia in India, but Hyundai became the first company to launch this transmission with their cars. The Hyundai Venue was the first car in India to be launched with iMT transmission with other Hyundai cars following its trail. iMT proved to be a great option for budget buyers who had issues with handling the clutch of the car. The system works perfectly and also does not cost much. Find out inside expected new iMT car launches in India for 2021.

1) Hyundai Santro

Hyundai Santro

The Hyundai Santro is a 5-seater entry-level hatchback which costs between Rs.5.54 lakh and Rs. 7.48 lakh(On-road Mumbai). It comes with both 5-speed manual and AMT transmission. However to put things into context the Hyundai Santro Magna with a 5-speed manual transmission costs Rs.6.09 lakh. The same car with an AMT transmission costs Rs. 6.69 lakh, a Rs. 60,000 price increase. The iMT will be a great option for budget buyers looking to avoid the hassle of clutch altogether. From the ongoing cars, there is only a maximum price increase of Rs. 20,000 due to iMT transmission.  The Hyundai Santro comes in 9 variant options and also with CNG engine option.

2) Hyundai Creta

New iMT car launches in India 2021

Hyundai Creta is Hyundai’s highest selling car in India. This 5-seater SUV took the market by storm on launch and continues to do so even after years. It comes with 6-speed manual, 6-speed CVT, and 7-speed DCT. The Hyundai Creta however misses out on iMT.  The SX 1.5 Petrol with the 6-speed manual transmission costs Rs.16.29 lakhs. The same car with CVT transmission costs Rs.18.05 lakhs, a whopping Rs.1.76 lakh price increase. There may be an increase in features, but this is simply an overkill for budget buyers. The Hyundai Creta iMT if launched should be available with the lower-spec variants for better sales. iMT is especially expected with the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine.

3) Kia Seltos

New iMT car launches in India 2021

How can we talk about Creta and forget Seltos? The Kia Seltos is a worthy Hyundai Creta competitor in India and has been doing well in terms of sales. It also comes with similar transmission options as the Hyundai Creta. The Kia Seltos HTX 1.5 with a 6-speed manual transmission costs Rs. 15.75 lakh(On-road Mumbai). The same car with a CVT transmission costs Rs. 16.91 lakh, a Rs. 1.16 lakh price increase. Like the Hyundai Creta, iMT should be provided in the lower variants of the car. Kia Sonet already comes with a iMT transmission. This too like the Creta will see an iMT on the Turbo Petrol variants.
