Winners of Motor Octane Awards 2021

Finally most prestigious online automotive awards have concluded! And we have our winners that we have put through its paces and you have voted on too! These were the cars and bikes that were released last year and which we spent considerable time testing and YOU, the viewer/enthusiast also lent us your voice with your vote. So below are the winners for various categories in this years Motor Octane Awards.

Best Indian Car 2021 – Tata Altroz

It impressed us with its usability, segment leading traits and features plus driving dynamics and safety rating. It was the latest entrant in the segment and has quickly become a hot favorite with more than 50,000 units being sold in the first year itself. The car increased the Tata Motors market share considerably in the hatchback segment and overall aided in the manufacturers bounce back to the number 3 spot in overall sales. We look forward to see more from this hatchback in the future.

Best Indian Motorcycle 2021 – Royal Enfield Meteor

Not just a new name! The Meteor is a whole new approach from Royal Enfield. A cruiser worthy to fill the boots of the Thunderbird. The revised platform, smooth new engine, electronics and technology like the tripper really make one of the brands most affordable offering a much better deal. Knowing that the upcoming offerings from the brand will also be given the same setup, the brand is moving forward and is going to get a lot new customers. Also, its one handsome looking bike!

Editors Pick: Four Wheeler – Hyundai i20

The i20 brand is one of the strongest in the hatchback segment. Premium hatchback = i20. Buyers have trusted and loved the i20 since years and with this new generation car, Hyundai has again set a benchmark with the various powertrain options, features and a sporty new design. Yes, it has become expensive but then one looks at the level of equipment, space, quality and appeal that this car is offering – it is India’s ultimate hatchback.

Editors Pick: Two Wheeler – Honda H’ness CB350

The argument for the Best Indian Motorcycle was very strong in our office along with the voting online too. But the Meteor is the end won ours and YOUR hearts. But the bike that Honda has dispatched to take on Royal Enfield has come really close. The CB350 is the deadly ‘hitman’ that RE and rest of the classic segment will in the future have to be aware of. It rides, feels and performs phenomenally well. One could argue – sounds better than the RE. Maybe looks are not its thing and the Royal Enfield pulls ahead in that comparison but if Honda built this brand name further (and more Big Wing Dealerships) we can in a year or two have a killer on our hands. Welcome to the Classic segment Honda!

Most Awaited Product of the Year – Mahindra Thar

This was a no-brainer. No other car in our entire year of testing made our team smile or love driving it more. Mahindra has definitely increased the appeal of this iconic car towards the masses and long waiting periods will testify. Its more capable than before, has more engine/gearbox options and comes anointed with features that make life smooth for daily use. For sheer shock value, road presence and making a statement nothing comes close.

Best Indian EV Four Wheeler – MG ZS EV

In the start of the year, we decided to test ourselves and break myths. The car to help us in this process was the MG ZS EV where we broke records as we drove it from Mumbai to Delhi with comfort. EVs are coming to India and with the ZS as one of the premium offerings that entered our market this year we can see more people driving electric cars and using them for such journeys soon. As more charging stations crop up we will also see the dip in range anxiety.

Best Indian EV Two Wheeler – Ather 450X

The best electric scooter and two wheeler in the country by a distance as great as its range. The 450X performs will in all criteria we want from a modern two wheeler EV- performance, handling, range, charging, futuristic design and technology. Yes it is a bit on the expensive side but then on the national level one cannot find another electric two wheeler of this caliber anywhere else.
