The launch of the much awaited, next-generation Toyota Innova model year 2016 in Indonesia is reportedly less than a fortnight away. Stocks therefore have already started to trickle in at dealerships with three trim variants being confirmed so far. Of these, the range-topping ‘Q’ variant was snapped up on the inside and out, and here are the details they reveal so far.

Given the love for chrome in key markets where the people mover is going to be sold, Toyota have been generous with it at the front of the 2016 Innova. The grille is an all-new affair for starters and features twin-slats, all finished in gleaming chrome. Flanking them on either side are projector-LED headlamps which make an appearance for the first time in the model’s illustrious history.

The wing-mirrors as well as the door handles too are finished in chrome. The car also gets a keyless-smart entry system as standard. Toyota is offering 17-inch alloys on the range topping Diesel ‘Q’ variant while others down the range have to make do with 16-inch alloys.

Step inside the 2016 Innova and you are greeted with an all-new dashboard layout that’s been thoroughly refreshed. It gets faux-wood inserts and an automatic climate control system. Captain’s chairs make up the second-row seating in the 2016 Innova. Toyota have also chosen to equip the car with an advanced infotainment system that’s fully loaded with a touchscreen interface. It comes with a host of connectivity options starting with the de-facto USB and AUX-in ports, and advancing to Bluetooth and HDMI, besides being MIRACAST enabled.

Toyota have renewed their focus on passenger safety, and the 2016 Innova comes with a complete package of active as well as passive safety systems. Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) is standard; as are three airbags across the model range. The range topping Q-variant goes a few steps more, being equipped with as many as seven airbags in total as well as VSC and Hill Assist Control on board.

Powering the 2016 Innova is the 2.

4 litre GD diesel engine which promises to be the mainstay of the range. It develops about 145 bhp and 35 Nm torque which is a sizeable bump up from the previous generation motor. There is also a 2.0 litre 16-valve DOHC, Dual VVT-I engine which is rated for 135 bhp of power and 18.

7 Nm torque. Two transmissions will be offered, a five-speed manual as well as a six-speed automatic affair.

Bookings are now being accepted at company dealers for all three variants (the base-G, the mid-level V-variant and the range topping Q-variant).
