The seven-seater segment in India is slowly gaining popularity thanks to its affordability and performance. For an Indian middle-class man who wants to travel with his whole family at once, seven-seater cars are much more practical than expensive SUVs and sedans. Hyundai Creta 7-seater is expected to launch in the second half of 2021. The Creta is an important car for Hyundai currently. With strong products like Venue and Creta in each segment, they also want to dominate the remaining segments. So the Creta 7-seater is expected to dominate the segment above. Hyundai is also planning for a car which is will be an SUV and below the Hyundai Venue. The Creta 7-seater will be priced slightly lower than the Hector Plus and the Safari as it is expected to have a smaller engine instead of a 2.0-litre.

Earlier versions of the Safari SUV were rugged and were offered with 4×4 drive. The latest one is a more modern SUV – which will offer top-notch features, comfort and technology. It will be the new flagship by Tata Motors. But unlike the previous Safari, the new Safari will not be offered with 4×4 or AWD system. It will only be offered as an FWD SUV, based on the same platform as the Harrier.

Similarities between Safari and Harrier extend to the interiors as well. It sports similar dashboard and interior layout with an 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable driver seat, a sunroof, keyless entry, push-button start and cruise control. The company recently rolled the first production model off the assembly line at its manufacturing facility in Pune. To keep the excitement going, the company recently released a new image of the Safari confirming captain seats in the middle-row.

Changes from Creta

While the wheelbase length will likely remain identical as the five-seater version, behind the C-pillar apparent changes have been made to liberate space. It has a longer rear overhang and the rear quarter glass is larger in size as well. The tailgate, LED tail lamps and rear bumper are redesigned consequently and elements like the roof rails, front doors and dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels are carried over.

Under the hood, the 2021 Hyundai Creta seven-seat variant is likely to be powered by the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel engine from the five-seat variant. Transmission options could include a six-speed manual unit as standard while a seven-speed DCT unit and a six-speed torque converter automatic unit might be offered as options on the petrol and diesel variants respectively.

Mechanically, the upcoming 2021 Tata Safari SUV will draw power from the same BS6 compliant Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the 5-seater Harrier SUV. The motor is good for 168 bhp of maximum power against 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options willw include a 6-speed manual gearbox along with an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter.
