Speaking to Autocar, Yoshiki Konishi, chief engineer, Toyota Motor Corporation, has revealed that the company is working on the new-generation Fortuner that will hit Indian roads sometime next year (2022). While the 2022 Toyota Fortuner will continue to underpin the ladder-frame chassis, it will receive comprehensive changes in terms of design and features. One of the biggest update might come in the form of the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), which is already offered on its new arch-rival – MG Gloster.

Chief Engineer, Toyota Motor Corporation, Yoshiki Konishi, has stated that the firm would like to introduce EPS in the car in the near future in order to make the vehicle easier to drive.

Major changes are also expected to be made under its hood. The 2022 Toyota Fortuner is reported to come with a diesel-hybrid powertrain that will be more efficient and eco-friendly. However, there is no clarity whether it will get Toyota’s strong hybrid system or mild-hybrid technology. At present, the SUV comes with a 2.8L diesel and 2.7L petrol engines delivering a claimed power of 104bhp and 166bhp respectively.
