Tata Safari was quite a famous car in India. Tata wants a re-birth of this popular SUV in the form of its latest new SUV which is based on the Harrier. The Tata Harrier itself is one popular SUV in India. Now with transmission, engine and platform sharing there are still going to be some differences between the two, find out inside a comparison between the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari in India.
The Harrier is perfectly designed from all the angles. The stance of the vehicle is impressive and won’t provide you with room to complain. Dimensions of this car are quite similar to the Discovery Sport because of the same derived platform. The body proportions too are quite similar to the Land Rover. But when it comes to the design, car has been made on the Tata’s Impact 2.0 Design philosophy.
The design elements of Tata Safari will be quite similar to the Harrier with the third row being the major difference. The sloping roof of the Harrier is also replaced by a taller raked roof which we loved on the Safari. The car was first showcased in India during the Auto Expo 2020 in February. The car is expected to go on sale in the end of January. Tata has already discontinued the Hexa and this new car will be placed above Harrier to become Tata’s flagship SUV. More about Tata Harrier vs Tata Safari in India for 2021 below.
The new Tata Safari is going to get 18-inch wheels. As like the other Tata cars, the Safari will also come with great build quality and safety. Electronic steering wheel with the SUV is also an expected feature in the new car. The Tata Harrier also became quite famous due to its ESP features, and the Safari will feature the same. Four-wheel disc brake setup will complete the safety aspect of the car. The car is going to be 80mm taller and 60mm longer than its sibling, the Tata Harrier. More about the dimensions, capacity and specs will be reveled at the time of the launch.
The Harrier update in 2020 saw the redesigned ORVMs, touchscreen system with multiple color options, panoramic sunroof and premium interiors were welcome additions. The car gets features like electrically adjustable driver seats, cruise control, automatic gearbox with different driving modes. Safety is also a major strong point for Tata and this car comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and 14 ESP functions. All of this will continue on the Tata Safari as well. We expect the Safari to additionally get 360 degree parking, front parking sensors and better connected car tech.
Engine and Performance
Tata Harrier comes with a BS6 engine option with both manual and automatic transmission. This new engine is also BS6 stage-2 compliant. NVH levels have greatly reduced, Performance is peppier, and AMT are a welcome addition. The performance to refinement ratio is also very good. You also get various driving modes to choose from.
You can expect to get a fuel efficiency of 12km/l in the city while the highways will get you about 14km/l. The ride quality and handling were the best in class and have remained similar. Steering has been made lighter compared to before taking in customer feedback. Sadly no petrol variant is available for purchase as of now. The Tata Safari is also going to to come with the same engine.
