There was a time when the price difference between petrol and diesel compelled car buyers to choose diesel over petrol due to low running costs. While EVs are still many years away from being commercially used, CNG cars are the best option for low-cost running vehicles. The CNG pump connectivity in India is also quite decent with support over small and large cities equally. Which are the less known CNG Cars in India for 2020-21?

1) Hyundai Santro CNG

While there are other Maruti CNG cars cheaper than Santro, we included it here to diversify the list. Perhaps the only factory-fitted CNG car competitor in terms of price is the Hyundai Santro. Hyundai Santro was launched in CNG avatar in 2019. The Hyundai Santro CNG comes with two different variant options: Magna and Sportz. Hyundai Santro Manga CNG comes at an ex-showroom price of ₹6.8Lakhs. As you can see clearly, the price of the Hyundai CNG entry-level car is a lot more premium compared to other Maruti counterparts.  The Maruti WagonR S-CNG which is the main competitor of this car starts at Rs.5.25 lakh.

2) Maruti WagonR CNG

Maruti Suzuki, in its endeavour to push forward the cause of green mobility, has launched the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG. The new Wagon R CNG comes with a new body and design that still remains true to its original “tall-boy” stance. At its heart, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG employs the S-CNG technology that provides a perfect balance of drivability and high fuel efficiency.

S-CNG technology is available in Wagon R LXI and LXI (O) CNG variants. The factory-fitted CNG kit in Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG has a leak-proof design thanks to the advanced components used, and contributes to a higher engine lifespan. Equipped with dual interdependent ECUs with Intelligent Injection System, Wagon R CNG delivers superior performance that is characterized by smooth pickup and great drivability. The total CNG tank capacity in Wagon R S-CNG stands at 60L (water equivalent). Maruti WagonR CNG costs between Rs.5.95 lakh and Rs.6.03 lakh on-road Mumbai.

3) Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

Less known CNG Cars in India for 2020-21

A great competitor to the Maruti WagonR CNG is the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Sportz 1.2 Kappa VTVT CNG is priced at ₹ 8.14 Lakh. This Sportz 1.2 Kappa VTVT CNG variant comes with an engine putting out 68bhp/6000 rpm and 95Nm/4000 rpm. It is available in Manual transmission. 6 colours: Alpha Blue, Aqua Teal, Titan Grey, Fiery Red, Typhoon Silver and Polar White. 4) Maruti Dzire Tour S

Less known CNG Cars in India for 2020-21

While this car is available for the commercial market with older Dzire design, it sure looks good. The Tour S comes with powerful 1.2L VVT Petrol Engine with S-CNG technology. It has manual air conditioner with heater, sun visor with ticket holder, power & tilt steering and front power windows.
