The Maruti WagonR Electric has been one of the most-anticipated entry-level EV models in India for quite a while now. The electric WagonR has been spotted undergoing testing for quite a while now and is said to be Maruti Suzuki’ first fully-electric offering in the country. Exterior Expectations
Maruti is not changing the tallboy look of the new Maruti WagonR EV for keeping the production cost low. Still, some obvious changes are present. Starting with the front, you can clearly see that the new car has split headlamps as opposed to a single cluster headlamp. This addition adds a modern touch to the car. LED DRLs and projector headlamps can be expected in the new car. New alloy wheel design will also be present. Maruti may also add strong straight lines to the car to make it look sportier. The front bumper and grille design will also be different to add a fresh new touch.
Interior Expectations
The interiors are rumored to be just like the third generation WagonR with a large touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console. All modern features like wireless Android Auto and Apple car play will be provided in the car. The company may add connected car tech features for the EVs used as personal vehicles. Center armrest and adjustable headrest will be an important addition for the taxi market. A new dual-tone interior design may be available. New Features
The new Maruti WagonR EV will be based on the HEARTECT platform. In Japan, the Maruti WagonR comes with a mild hybrid system which provides 25 km/l. The ISG (generator with motor function), which has excellent power generation efficiency, uses the energy during deceleration to generate electricity and charges the lead battery and a lithium-ion battery for idling stop vehicles.
Utilizing that power, the motor assists the engine during acceleration. It is a hybrid system that contributes to further improvement of fuel efficiency. Equipped with a large-capacity lithium-ion battery. It enables creep running by the motor and frequent motor assist. While Maruti Suzuki is yet to announce an official timeline for the launch of its electric hatchback, we expect it to go on sale somewhere in the second half of the year (September 2021). Prices for the Maruti Suzuki WagonR electric could start from around Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom. The upcoming Maruti WagonR will feature a range close to 130km and will be a great choice for the taxi market.
