5 New Updates on the Upcoming Maruti Jimny

The Jimny is a product which Marui has been on and off about the launch. Although we are expecting it since last year there has been some or the other reason for its delay. Now for 2021, we are expecting it to finally launch but there are some doubts as Maruti has not been clear on its launch timelines of the Upcoming Maruti Jimny.

1 Assembly has begun

According to recent news, the assembly of the CKD units of the Jimny has begun in the Gurugram plant of Maruti. These are CKD units from Japan and they might be here for testing. Also, these are 3 door units and might be the basis for the testing and development of the 5-door version that is expected.

2. 5-Door version likely

The Jimny is likely to be sold as a 5-door version for India. There won’t be a 3 door version like the Thar. The reason for this had been given by Maruti as they think India is a country where the majority of cars are 5-door and so a 3-door version of Jimny might not be for the masses. Although the Thar is doing well in the Indian market, the Jimny is focused towards the masses and that might be the key reason why Maruti won’t get the 3-door version on a large scale.

3. Assembly on the same line as the Gypsy

The Jimny is the successor to the good old Gypsy. Essentially they are different cars and were sold at the same time in a different market, Maruti is assembling the Jimny on the same line as the Gypsy. The Jimny too uses a body on frame chassis which is good for offroad but has its flaw in terms of high-speed stability.

4. No Diesel

Maruti currently does not offer diesel powertrains on any of their diesel vehicles. It is rumoured that Maruti is developing a 1.5-litre diesel engine which will feature on bigger Maruti cars like Ertiga, Ciaz, Brezza and S-Cross. Although the 1.5 diesel might be available for Maruti it might bring to a car at the price point of Jimny. Cost here playing a major role the Maruti Jimny is very unlikely to get a diesel engine.

5. 4 Wheel drive for Automatic

With the Maruti Jimny, the Suzuki AllGrip Pro will be made available which will be there on all vehicles irrespective of their gearbox and transmission. This is somewhat similar to what the Mahindra Thar offers and is seen as a feature that gives versatility to the off-roader.
