The MPV segment is not one of the most popular and selling segment in India as of now. MPV segment is only preferred by customers who want extra seats for a cheap price. The MPV segment is also widely used as ambulance, TV-crew vehicle, tour vehicles and many more roles. While safety was an ignored parameter up until now, people in India have become quite concerned regarding safety now. Find out below which are the safest MPVs in the Indian market.

1) Mahindra Marazzo

Readers should note that this list is based on Global NCAP’s safety rating and GNCAP has not tested all of the MPVs sold in India. However according to its recent list the Made in India Mahindra Marazzo is the safest MPV on the Indian roads as of now.  The Mahindra Marazzo scored an impressive 4-star safety rating in adult protection. The MPV sadly only scored 2-star rating in rear child protection.

The base variant of the MPV tested in 2018 came with standard safety features like Front Seatbelt pre-tensioners, Driver frontal airbag, Front passenger frontal airbag, SBR, ISOFIX and 4-channel ABS. The MPV sadly misses out on side Body/Head airbags, and driver knee airbag.

Mahindra Marazzo Petrol

The Mahindra Marazzo costs between Rs.11.25 lakh and Rs.13.59 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in 6 variants with a single BS6 1497cc diesel engine and a single manual transmission. For its price it is a pretty good MPV

2) Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is one of the most famous cars sold in India. For people looking for a cheaper alternative to Toyota Innova with 7-seats, Maruti Ertiga is the best option. Maruti Ertiga BS6 Petrol costs between Rs.7.59 lakh and Rs.10.13 lakh. (ex-showroom) It comes in 7 variant options and both manual and automatic transmission.

While the majority of Maruti cars perform poorly in the safety department, the Ertiga surprised everyone by scoring 3-star rating in adult protection and 3-star rating in child safety protection. The 5-door MPV had all the safety equipment similar to Mahindra Marazzo during the test.

3) Maruti Eeco

The second Maruti product in the list is the Maruti Eeco. The Maruti Eeco serves to be the bread and butter car of Maruti in India. With a combined sales figure of 10,000+ every month, Maruti Eeco is the largest selling MPVs in the Indian market. The cargo version of the Maruti Eeco is also included here. Maruti Eeco BS6 costs between Rs.3.80 lakh and Rs.4.95 lakh(ex-showroom). It comes in 4 variant options with a single 1196cc engine and a manual transmission.

The Maruti Eeco without any airbags in the GNCAP 2016 scored 0-star safety rating. However due to compulsory safety features by government the base variant of the 2020 Maruti Eeco comes with ABS with EBD, single driver airbag, child safety locks, rear seat belt, seat belt warning, side/front impact beams, engine immobilizer,  and speed alert. All these features may increase the safety rating to 1-2 star if crash checked now. The MPV in 2016 however scored 2-star safety rating for child protection.
