Mahindra’s upcoming compact crossover car  S101 (codenamed) has been spotted with clearer images this time. Although fully camouflaged, the new alloy wheels are clearly visible.

The S101 is targeted towards first-time car buyers and will be an affordable product for those who need a compact vehicle with high ground clearance. The pricing of the Mahindra S101 will be about INR 5.5-8 lakhs (on-road). It is almost as big as the Swift, will have high ground clearance and powerful and fuel-efficient engines.

Mahindra S101 will have a 1.2-litre petrol engine which has been built on the same platform on which the Ssangyong Tivoli is also based. The S101’s 1.2-litre petrol engine is a three-cylinder version of the 1.6-litre Tivoli (1597cc, four-cylinder). This will be the smallest UV from the Indian utility manufacturer and the company will be looking at increasing the number of common parts used. Mahindra will be offering the S101 with AMT (automated manual transmission) and this has been designed by the company in-house with engineering inputs from Ricardo. The Mahindra S101 will churn out about 75bhp of power on the petrol, while the diesel will be about similar power too.

The Maruti Ignis is the likely competitor of the Mahindra S101 and this is due to be launched sometime next year.
