The Sahara Force India team is set to make deal that would rebrand itself as Aston Martin Racing for the next Formula One season – 2016. This change of brand would also mark Aston Martin’s entry into F1 after more than fifty years.

Aston Martin would be taking its rivals such as McLaren and Ferrari head-on with this new name. Mercedes, who owns 5% of Aston Martin and also is a supplier of engines to Force India , were taken into confidence for granting an approval.

Force India team principal Vijay Mallya was quoted that “If tomorrow someone comes and offers me a good sum of money for title sponsorship, I’ll seek the team name. If the marque comes along and I have to change the team name, I have to look at what it does for the team in terms of profile. It’s premature to talk about it now, but we’re talking.”

Force India is one of the top teams in Formula 1 currently, and perhaps one of the most underrated. The team currently stands 5th in the 2015 Constructors Standings. Mercedes will still control the development and supplies of the powertrain for Aston Martin Racing. The drivers, Hulkenberg and Perez will likely remain in the team.
