Audi A5 Convertible spotted – EXCLUSIVE

The next-generation of Audi’s gorgeous A5 convertible has just been spied for the first time, testing on public roads in Germany.

This has been codenamed “B9,” the new A5 will be riding on the newest version of Audi’s MLB platform. Also known as “MLB Evo,” this latest version of the platform will use ultra high strength steel, aluminium and some composite material.

Audi will hope to trim 200-250 pounds from the current A5’s weight.

Most of Audi’s line-up will utilize the new MLB Evo chassis, with the 2015 Q7 being the first to get it.

A wide range of gas and diesel engines should be offered with the new A5 in various markets across the world.

A higher performance S5 convertible, and a top dog RS5 convertible, are certainly in the works as well. An A5 Sportback model is also likely to be offered in Europe to complete the 3 body styles that are planned for the A5/S5 together with the coupe . Watch for production of the 2017 Audi A5 convertible to start production in late 2016 or early 2017.

Note that the interior photos are from an Audi A5 Coupe prototype but that the Convertible will be exactly the same. The interior does hardly differ from the one found in the A4 as we can see.
