Maruti Wagon R AMT arriving in November
We had earlier reported in March that Maruti is working on an AMT (automated manual transmission) version in the Wagon R. Maruti is now set to launch the Wagon R AMT by the end of this year.
The Wagon R , Celerio and Alto K10 are powered by the same 1.0-litre K- Series engine, so adding an AMT on the Wagon R was never a problem. However, the only hindrance was the limited supply of automated manual transmissions from Magneti Marelli, a Fiat group, which supplies these transmissions to Maruti and also Tata. As Magneti Marelli has increased its AMT production and recently also started a new plant in Manesar, specifically for AMT production, the supply constraint has eased and Maruti now is looking at introducing the Wagon R AMT as soon as possible.
As per a report by Team-BHP, despatches to dealers will start in the month of November. We presume that the car will be announced around Diwali, to gain maximum mileage of the festive period. AMTs are an affordable option when compared to an automatic transmission and it does the job well too. Most of the upcoming compact vehicles are likely to get AMT to increase the driving convenience, especially in the city.
