Bajaj Auto have launched an all-new range of its much acclaimed Avenger motorcycle in Mumbai. Christened the 150 Street, 220 Cruise and the 220 Street, the three motorcycles are a refreshing take on Bajaj’s quintessential Avenger cruiser. Priced from INR 82,500 to INR 92,400 (on-road, Delhi) starting with the 150 Street, 220 Cruise & 220 Street respectively, the three new additions are a welcome expansion to the Avenger family.

Designed with specific target audiences in mind, Bajaj have done a fantastic job on the external visual appearances in-order to create these distinctive looking variants of the Avenger. The 220cc Cruise & Street siblings are powered by a reworked version of the previous-gen Avenger.

The Cruise 220 is the replacement the original Avenger. Recognizing the special bond that exists between cruiser motorcycles and chrome, Bajaj have showered the Avenger 220 Cruise with lashings of chrome. The tank graphics are all new, as are the emblems that adorn it. Gone is the single tone paint and in comes a deep paint finish that buyers are likely to love. The silencer unit has shed its chopped look and is now an all-chrome job. From the handle-bars to the tail-lamp, Bajaj have paid close attention to the way the 220 Cruise’s looks and have ensured that its appeal in the minds of the touring folk gets renewed afresh.

The 220 Street on the other hand, is more suited to the cut and jab routine which unfolds daily on the urban run. Gone is the chrome from the Cruise 220 and in comes an abundance of matte paint finishes. The wire wheels are traded in for a pair of alloys and this move alone should get people grooving towards it. There’s a shorter, flatter handle-bar that should make dodging through city traffic a breeze. A grab-rail makes an appearance here, instead of the cushioned, more elaborate backrest that’s seen in the 220 Cruise or even the previous-gen Avenger. The foot-pegs remind one of Royal Enfield’s Thunderbird cruiser. But the overall look of the 220 Street evokes memories of the Harley Davidson Street 750 and in a good way. The matte-black theme works here as do the paint options.

The all-familiar 220cc engine is paired with an oil-cooler. Performance characteristics have been suitably reworked with redesigned air-intakes, silencers & a brand new CDI, amidst a host of other changes. The smaller sibling of the three, the Avenger 150 Street is powered by a 150cc DTS-i motor. Bajaj Auto has claimed that it has been developed specifically for this application and, that it isn’t the same motor found doing duty in the Pulsar 150.

The three Avenger variants sport near-identical chassis frames, although the mounting-points are different for the 150cc & 220cc engines.

The Avenger 220 Cruise and the 220 Street have already reached dealerships across the country. The smaller, 150cc Avenger is ready to be shipped out to dealers today.
