Fiat’s India plan is adding more Fiat products for the Indian line-up that will be majorly sold in our domestic market.

But at the same time, for Jeep the idea is to make it an export hub. The new upcoming compact model from Jeep will be manufactured in India as well and this will be another major export hub for the company.

For Fiat though, the plans are to make the vehicles in India for the local market first and then look at exporting them.

Fiat might not get the Egea/Tipo, but could be considering a hybrid platform that will be based either on Brazilian platform or the existing modular platform that is used for India.

Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director FCA India stated, “The plan is to make Jeeps in India and it will be exported to other markets as well. Our Ranjangaon plant’s quality is equivalent to most of the other global plants.

This is one reason, why our plant has been selected for exports.”

On checking if these vehicles will be exported to developed markets and if even Fiat vehicles will be exported as well, he stated, “At the moment, the initial plan is to export Jeeps and make Fiats for Indian car market, however we can consider that as well.”

Fiat’s production capacity is 135,000 annual units and this will increase in 2018. This is when the company will actually start using its plant for making more products and the next-generation Fiats will be made here. The X3U platform plan has been put on hold.
