Tata Nexon or a Hyundai Creta?

Hyundai Creta and Tata Nexon have pretty much been the best sellers of their respective segments. But what if you can only afford the base variant of Hyundai Creta? Should you go with the bare essentials or buy the Tata Nexon top model? Starting things off, here we will compare only the Diesel variants of both the car because Hyundai Creta is not available in Petrol for the base model. Lets put them against each other and find out!
Engine
Hyundai Creta E Diesel | Tata Nexon XZ Diesel
Engine displacement | 1493cc | 1497cc |
Mileage | 21.4kmpl | 21.5kmpl |
Max power(bhp@rpm) | 113.42bhp@4000rpm | 108.5bhp@4000rpm |
Fuel tank capacity | 50 Liters | 44 Liters |
Engine Capacity | 1.5L Diesel CRDi | 1.5l Turbocharged Revotorq Engine |
Performance-wise both cars are quite similar to each other. While Creta has a small bump in the max power, Nexon leads in the engine displacement capacity but the difference is very minor. Even though the engine on the Creta is small it is tuned to have mover power. The larger fuel tank on the Creta does give it a slightly higher range but it is not significantly more.
Dimension
Hyundai Creta E Diesel | Tata Nexon XZ Diesel
Length | 4300mm | 3993mm |
Width | 1790mm | 1811mm |
Height | 1635mm | 1606mm |
Wheelbase | 2610mm | 2498mm |
Boot Space | 433L | 350L |
Ground Clearance (mm) – unladen | ~190mm | 209mm |
Creta is clearly the big brother of Nexon in terms of external size. It leads in all the departments of dimensions. If vehicle size is your major priority, Creta will be a better choice for you. However, the large ground-clearance of the Tata Nexon will help you during mild off-roading. Both the cars are not full-spec SUV so keep that in mind. Also, the Creta is not substantially bigger than the Nexon. The amount of passengers you can carry is still 4. The only thing that improves is comfort.

Coming to the Safety features of both the cars, Tata Nexon leads the competition. Though adequate Safety features have been provided in the Hyundai Creta, it is the bare minimum and is compulsory for market standards. If safety is your priority, look no further than the Nexon. People also consider fitting aftermarket Safety accessories but sorry to say the structural strength of the Car cannot be improvised by aftermarket parts.

The majority of standard comfort features are available in both the cars and are not shown above. Only contrasted details have been given above. Hyundai Creta leads the category by a marginal bump but both the cars come with their own set of Goodies and Features.
Conclusion
Answering the final question if safety, features are your major priority go with the Tata Nexon with the added benefit of pride owning an Indian brand made car. But if space, size, a good resale value, and road presence is your deciding factor, go with the Hyundai made Creta.
